"Helianthus" is the Latin name of Sunflower, Helia for Sun and Anthus meaning Flower.

Sunflower symbolises significance, faith, longevity and loyalty. Sunflowers are also known for being "happy" flowers, making them the perfect gift to bring joy to someone's day.

Sunflowers follow the movement of the sun across the sky from east to west, and this process is called heliotropism.

Sunflower petals can be eaten, and the bud can be steamed like an artichoke

Tips for growing: Sunflowers are not particularly fond of being transplanted, but if started indoors, sow in peat pots, 6 to 8 weeks prior to the last frost. In this way, once seedlings are about 5cm high you can plant pot, seedling and all!
